Why is LED drive power important for strip lighting?
LED lights require a special device called an LED drive power to open and operate. The LED drive power supply functions like a ballast for fluorescent lamps. The driver converts the line voltage to power suitable for LED operation. In addition, because the electrical properties of leds change with temperature fluctuations, the driver power program can adjust and maintain the current of the
constant voltage power supply.
LED drivers have three main USES:
1. Most homes use 120-277v alternating current, but leds use constant voltage direct current. Therefore, the driver converts the higher voltage alternating current to the lower voltage direct current to match the operation required by the LED lamp.
2. The input voltage of the driver must be the same as the voltage required by the driver. Otherwise, the voltage change will cause flicker or flash.
3. The commonly used method to control led output light is pulse width modulation. When LED bulbs dim, especially at the lower end of the light output, it may cause flickering.
Most leds require a driver, and several are designed to run under alternating current. While the LED bulbs you screw into your lamp may not look like bulbs, they actually have an internal drive, just like the CFL you screw into has an integral ballast. Most home leds are direct replacements for incandescent bulbs, led strips, led modules, halogen lamps, and CFL lamps with internal drives.
